A review of St Mary's Girls Primary School by Paul written on Monday 14th of November 2011
Unfortunately the decision was taken to close this unique schhol along time before it was destroyed by fire then demolished. the school moved to Amcomri Street after the original schhol on Beechmount Avenue became too small and was also condemned. The new school was unique in that it was an American Pod Style school, the only one of its kind in Ireland. There was always a welcoming feeling when entering the school, the kids wanted to be there and it was always a hive of industry. My three daughters attended this school the eldest was in the last P7 class in 2000, the other two transferred to St Pauls. In the last year of the school 75% of the kids passed the 11+ and went on to grammar school and university. Even the kids that did not passed this failed test excelled in their chosen fields. Had this little diamond remained open it would still be churning well adjusted well educated young women, it is testament that several of the schools teachers are still working in the area 30 something years later..
