A review of St Joseph's (Maintained) College by Citizen written on Tuesday 13th of January 2009
Formed from the amalgamation of St Augustine's Boy's Sec School/St Monicas's Girl's Sec School, in September 1992, on the Ravenhill Rd site:404 pupils have grown to more than 650 in 2008. The school is now 11-19,all-ability,co-ed, and boasts a considerable reputation for taking young people rejected by the selective sysyem at age 11 and ensuring they can avail of all the options to achieve their aspirations.It sets high standards for work, and relationships amongst staff and pupils are positive and collegiate.
The school has gained a positive reputation for its' sound pastoral care, and welcoming atmosphere. It can list graduates of many universities amongst its' past-pupils.
St Joseph's College has embraced the many children arriving from other countries and has approximately 120,mainly from the Phillipines,Poland,India,China and Hong Kong,with smaller numbers from other places.It embraces its' multi-cultural ethos as a positive aspect of its'mission.
The school is forward-looking, in line for new-build and numbers are growing..
